Question 392887: If the numerator of a fraction is increased by 4, the value of the resulting fraction is 3/4. If the denominator of the original fraction is increased by 2, the value of the resulting fraction is 1/2. Find the original fraction.
Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(n + 4) / d = 3/4 ___ 4n + 16 = 3d

n / (d + 2) = 1/2 ___ 2n = d + 2 ___ 4n = 2d + 4

substituting ___ (2d + 4) + 16 = 3d ___ 20 = d

substituting ___ 2n = (20) + 2 ___ n = 11
