Hi,
one number is 3 times as large as the other
Let x and 3x represent the numbers
Question states***
1/x - 1/3x = 1/6 |Multiplying each term by 6x so as all denominators = 1
6 - 2 = x
4 = x
x = 4 The other number is 12. (3*4)
CHECKING our Answer
1/4 - 1/12 = 3/12 - 1/12 = 2/12 = 1/6
