Let x represent goals scored against Canada.  

Then (x+35) would represent the goals scored by Canada.

question states:

x + (x+35) = 41

solve for x

2x + 35 = 41

2x = 6

x = 3, goals scored against Canada.  Canada scored 38! (41-3)
