 The sum of two numbers is 80. The larger number is nine less than three times the smaller. Find both numbers
let x = smaller number
let 3x - 9 = larger number
x + 3x - 9 = 80
4x - 9 = 80
4x = 89
x = 22.25 = smaller number
3x - 9 = 3(22.25) - 9 = 57.75 = larger number
