Question 358093: Separate 45 into 2 parts such that five times the smaller is 6 less than twice the greater
Answer by checkley77(12844)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
5x=2y-6
x=(2y-6)/5
45=xy
45=(2y-6)/5*y
45=(2y^2-6y)/5
2y^2-6y=5*45
2y^2-6y=225
2y^2-6y-225=0

y=(6+-sqrt[-6^2-4*2*-225])/2*2
y=(6+-sqrt[36+1,800])/4
y=(6+-sqrt1,836)/4
y=(6+-42.8486)/4
y=(6+42,8486)/4
y=48.8486)/4
y=12.212 ans.
x=(2*12.212-6)/5
x=(24.424-6)/5=
x=18.424/5=3.685 ans.
Proof:
45=12.212*3.685
45=45
