Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let number be x
x^2+(x+3)^2=185
x^2+x^2+6x+9=185
2x^2+6x-176=0
2x^2+6x-176=0
x^2+3x-88=0
x^2+11x-8x-88=0
x(x+11)-8(x+11)=0
(x-8)(x+11)=0
x=8 Or -11
