First step, name your variables.
Let M be the number of correct multiple choice problems and T be the number of correct true/false problems.

.
.
"28 questions were answered correctly"
With our variables,
1.
.
.
.
"mutilple choice questions are worth 3 points, true false are worth 2 points....score of 77 points"
2.
.
.
.
You now have 2 equations with 2 unknowns, M and T.
Multiply eq. 1 by (-3) and add to eq. 2,

Then from eq. 1,

Twenty one multiple questions and seven T/F questions were answered correctly.

Answer by JBarnum(2146)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
m= # of multiple choice questions
t= # of true false questions
this is set up just like money word problems
m is worth 3
t is worth 2
# of ?'s, this says # of multiple choice questions plus # of true false questions equals 28 questions
point values, so the total points for m would be 3 times the # of questions and the total points for t would be 2 times the # of true false questions. those two point values added together make 77points.

so substitution or elimination method will work here
