Question 302816: Two numbers have a sum of 54 and a quotient of 5. what are the numbers?
Answer by london maths tutor(243) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let's the number be x and y
x+y=54 .. equation 1
x/y =5 .. equation 2
Rerrange equation 2: x = 5*y
Put x = 5y into equation 1 to solve for y
5y + y = 54
6y = 54
y = 54/6
y = 9
and therefore, x = 5 * 9 = 45
Answer: 9 and 45
