Question 295978: PROBLEM: The length of a rectangle is two feet more than twice the width. The area is 144 ft2 (squared). Find the length and width of the rectangle.
If possible, could you show me how you got it? If not, no worries....

Answer by checkley77(12844) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
L=2W+2
AREA=LW
144=(2W+2)W
144=2W^2+2W
2W^2+2W-144=0
2(W^2+W-72)=0
2(W-8)(W+9)=0
W-8=0
W=8 ANS. FOR THE WIDTH
L=2*8+2=16+2=18 ANS. FOR THE LENGTH.
PROOF:
144=8*18
144=144
