Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
One number is four more then a second number. Five times the first is one less then two times the second. Find the numbers.
---
Equations:
x = y + 4
5x = 2y-1
-----------------
Substitute for "x" and solve for "Y":
5(y+4) = 2y-1
5y+20 = 2y-1
3y = -21
y = -7
-----------
Since x = y + 4, x = -7+4 = -3
