Let x = the smaller number
Let y = the larger number
Because they are consecutive even numbers, they must have a difference of 2:
y-x=2
y=2+x

Eqn 1: x + (2+x) = 14
Eqn 2: x(2+x)=48

2x + 2 = 14
2x=12
x=6

This means y must be 8.

so your two numbers are 6 and 8.
