Question 292036: One # is 5 times another, if the sum of their reciprocals is two-fifths, find the two numbers
Answer by ptaylor(2198) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x=one number; reciprocal is 1/x
Then 5x=the other number; reciprocal is 1/5x
so:
1/x + 1/5x=2/5 multiply each term by 5x
5+1=2x
2x=6
x=3 -----one number
5x=5*3=15----the other number
CK
1/3+1/15=2/5
5/15 +1/15=2/5
6/15=2/5
2/5=2/5
Hope this helps---ptaylor
