Write an equation of what the statement says:
:
one third of the sum of two consecutive odd integers is five less than the small integer.
(x + (x+2)) = x - 5
(2x+2) = (x - 5)
multiply both side by 3
2x + 2 = 3(x - 5)
2x + 2 = 3x - 15
2 + 15 = 3x - 2x
x = 17
:
find both integers.: 17, 19
:
:
Check solution in original equation
(17 + 19) = 17 - 5
(36) = 12
