Let's show the larger as x and the smaller as y. Now we can set up 2 equations and solve.
x-y=6
1/2(x)=1/3(y)+5 Subtract 1/3(y) from both sides to get:
1/2(x)-1/3(y)=5 Multiply this by -2 so we can cancel out x:
-x+2/3(y)=-10 Add this equation to the first equation:
x-y=6 And we get:
-1/3(y)=-4 Divide both sides by -1/3
y=12 Plug this value into the first one and we get:
x=18
