Question 276757: The difference between two numbers is 16. Three times the larger number is nine times the smaller. What are the numbers?
Answer by checkley77(12844) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x=y-16
3y=9x
3y=9(y-16)
3y=9y-144
3y-9y=-144
-6y=-144
y=-144/-6
y=24 ans. for the larger number.
x=24-16=8 ans. for the smaller number.
Proof:
3*24=9*8
72=72
