Question 274933: How do you write and solve this equation. One number is four less than three times another. If their sum is increased by five, the result is twenty five. Find the numbers.
Answer by checkley77(12844) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x=3y-4
x+y+5=25 or x=25-5-y or x=20-y
Replace x with (20-y) in the first equation & solve for y
20-y=3y-4
-y-3y=-4-20
-4y=-24
y=-24/-4
y=6 ans.
x=20-6
x=14 ans.
Proof:
14=3*6-4
14=18-4
14=14
