n = the "some number"
Twice a number + 3 = 2n+3
-----------------
5 times 2n+3 = 85
5*(2n+3) = 85
n+3 = 17
2n = 14
n = 7

Actually, I believe the equation is:
so, starting with , divide both sides by 5
subtract 3 from both sides
divide both sides by 2
