Question 265939: A pickup can travel 300 miles in the same time that a car going 10 miles per hour faster can travel 350 miles. How fast is the car traveling?
Answer by checkley77(12844)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
D=RT
300=RT or T=300/R
350=(R+10)T or T=350/(R+10
SET THE 2 EQUATIONS EQUAL:
300/R=350/(R+10) CROSS MULTIPLY
350R=300(R+10)
350R=300R+3,000
350R-300R=3,000
50R=3,000
R=3,000/50
R=60 MPH. FOR THE PICKUP.
60+10=70 MPH. FOR THE CAR.
PROOF:
300/60=350/70
5=5
