Question 257969: A person invested $10,000. The greater part is invested at 6% and the remainder at 5%. The annual income from the greater part is $160 more than the annual income from the smaller part. What is the smaller part of the investment?
Answer by checkley77(12844)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.06x=.05(10,000-x)+160
.06x=500-.05x+160
.06x+.05x=660
.11x=660
x=660/.11
x=$6,000 amount invested @ 6%
10,000-6,000=$4,000 invested @5%
Proof:
.06*6,000=.05*4,000+160
360=200+160
360=360
