Question 253903: The difference of squares of two consecutive integers is 19. Find the integers. I am not sure how I would set up the equation after the let statements are completed.
Let x= the first consecutive integer.
let x + 1= the second consecutive integer.
Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
and the next step is the difference of squares of x and x+1
that means square them and subtract them
(x+1)^2-x^2=19
The x^2's get removed so we end up with
2x+1=19
The answers are consecutive integers
9 and 10
100-81=19
