Question 248973: the difference of two numbers is twelve. three times the smaller one is four less than twice the larger. find the smaller number
Answer by checkley77(12844)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x-y=12 or x=12+y
3x=2y-4 replace x in this equation by (12+y) & solve for y
3(12+y)=2y-4
36+3y=2y-4
3y-2y=-4-36
y=-40 ans.
x=12-40
x=-28 ans.
Proof:
3*-28=2*-40-4
-84=-80-4
-84=-84
