The sum of two numbers is 19. If 5 times the smaller number is 3 less than twice the larger number, what are the numbers?

Answer by checkley77(12844)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x+y=19 or x=19-y
5y=2x-3
Replace x with (19-y) in the second equation & solve for y
5y=2(19-y)-3
5y=38-2y-3
5y+2y=35
7y=35
y=35/7
y=5 ans.
x=19-5
x=14 ans.
Proof:
5*5=2*14-3
25=28-3
25=25
