Bert is planning to fence his rectangular backyard for ducks. He has 100 meters of chicken wire to build the perimeter. What should the dimensions of the fence be of the length is 5 more than the width?

Let x = the width
then it says the length is 5 more than the width, therefore
(x+5) = the length
:
The perimeter equation: 2L + 2W = P
therefore:
2(x+5) + 2x = 100
2x + 10 + 2x = 100
4x = 100 - 10
4x = 90
x =
x = 22.5 m is the width
and
22.5 + 5 = 27.5 m is the length
