Question 230222: Write the following as an algrebraic expression, Then simplify.
The sum of three even consecutive integers if the first integer is y.

The sum of three consecutive EVEN integers where the first integer is y.

Let y = first integer
y+2= second integer
y+4=third integer

Add them up and you get y+y+2+y=4
Combine like terms, and you get 3y+6 for the sum of the integers. You still can't find the sum unless you know what y is, and you can't find y is you don't know the sum.
