Question 22209: Could you please help me with this problem.
The sum of two numbers is 78. If three times the smaller is increased by the larger, the result is 124. Find the smaller number.
Thank you for your time.

Answer by Paul(988)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x+y=78
y=-x+78
3x+(-x+78)=124
3x-x+78=124
2x+78-78=124-78
2x=46
x=23
y=-23+78
y=55
hence the two numbers are 23, and 55.
