The sum of two consecutive integers is 237. Find the two integers.

Step 1. Let n be an integer.

Step 2. Let n+1 be the next consecutive integer.

Step 3. Then n+n+1=237 since the sum of two consecutive integers is 237.

Step 4. Solving yields the following steps



Subtract 1 from both sides of the equation.



Divide by 2 to both sides of the equation.



and

Step 4. ANSWER: The integers are 118 and 119.
