What is the easiest way to understand sub and add integers

Here's one way to think about. Whenever you see a plus (or add) then you step forward. If you see a negative then think of walking backwards. In other words, every time you see minus you go in the opposite direction

For example, 5-6=5+(-6)= -1 or one step backward. This is the same as saying 5 steps forward and 6 steps backward which results in one step backward.

Another example 5-(-6)=5+6=11. Here, we go 5 steps forward but two negatives is a positive. So a minus means you go backward and another minus means you go the other way or back to the forward motion. The net result is 11. So every time you see minus you go in the opposite direction

I hope the above steps and explanation were helpful.
