Let x=the first number
then x-8=second number
and x+4=third number
Now we are told that:
x+(x-8)+(x+4)=120 simplify
x+x-8+x+4=120
3x-4=120 add 4 to each side
3x-4+4=120+4 or
3x=124 divide each side by 3
x=41 1/3-----------first number
x-8=(41 1/3)-8=33 1/3------------second number
x+4=(41 1/3)+4=45 1/3 --------------------third number
