Answer by xcentaur(357) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the number be x
"four times the quantity of a number decreased by one"
means (4x-1)
"two more than the same number"
means (2x)
Both of these are equal,ie:
4x-1=2x
4x-2x-1=0
4x-2x = 1
2x = 1
x= 1/2
Hope this helps,
