The difference between two numbers is 18. Twice the smaller number plus three times the larger is 74. What are the numbers?

x - y = 18
2y+3x = 74
-------------------
Rearrange:
3x - 3y = 54
3x + 2y = 74
------------------
Subtract 1st from 2nd to get:
5y = 20
y = 4
-----------
Substitute to solve for "x":
x - 4 = 18
x = 22
