Let x be the number
then x + 2(1/x) =3
x + 2/x = 3
x^2 + 2 = 3x
x^2 -3x + 2 =0
(x-1)(x-2)=0
x=1 or x=2
the numbers are 1 and 2

the equation would be as follows: A+2(1/A)=3 where A is the varible we are looking for. multiply each term by A and we get A^2+2=3A ... now subtract 3A from each side we end up with A^2-3A+2=0 which factors into (A-2)(A-1)=0 setting A-2=0 and A-1=0 we come up with the solution set of A=1,2
answer: 1 and 2
