Like in this word problem:
The sum of two numbers is 8 less than the first number. Their differrence is 5 less than twice the second number. Find each of the numbers.
Does the equation start like this:
2n-8=2m-4

So start with the first thing that they give you
the sum of two numbers: n=#1, m=#2
is 8 less than the first number
n+m=n-8
their difference is 5 less than twice the second number
n-m=2m-5
then you solve one of the equations for one variable and plug it into the other equation and solve for the numbers
