Question 12154: I am trying to help my son and it has been a long time since I have done this kind of math. Juan has 4 more cards than Kim. Larry has 2 more cards than Juan. Altogether they have 100 cards. How many cards does each person have?
Can you help?

Answer by askmemath(368)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
"Juan has 4 more cards than Kim."
Let Kim have "X" cards
Then Juan has X+4
"Larry has 2 more cards than Juan. "
NOw Larry has (X+4)+2 = X+6
"Altogether they have 100 cards."
So X + (X+4) + (X+6) = 100
3X+10 = 100
Subtracting 10 on both sides
3X = 100-10
3X = 90
X = 30 (Kim has these many)
Juan has 30+4 = 34
Larry has 34 + 2 = 36
Check:
30+34+36 = 100 Yay!!
