.

                You can solve this problem using equation.

Let x be the unknown number.

Write equation as you read the problem

    12x - 13 = 611.

Simplify and find x

    12x = 611 + 13

    12x = 624

      x = 624/12 = 52.

ANSWER.  x= 52.

CHECK.  12*52 - 13 = 611.    ! correct !

Solved.

-----------------

                You can solve it  MENTALLY  without using equations.

For it, make the inverse arithmetic operations in reverse order:

    - First, add 13 to 611 mentally and get 624.

    - Next, divide 624 by 12. You will get the same answer 52.
