two numbers add to 161 and the second is 49 bigger than the first.
One number be x
Other number is x+49
Their sum is 149
x+x+49=161
2x+49 = 161
2x=112
x=56
other number is 56+49 =105
Answer by addingup(3677) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x + y = 161
and
y = x + 49 substitute for y in the equation above
x + x + 49 = 161
2x = 112
x = 56
and
y = 56 + 49 = 105
----------------------
check:
x + y = 161
56 + 105 = 161 Correct
