M = 2D                 (1)

(M+2) + (D+2) = 49.    (2)



Substitute (1) into eq(2) to get


2D + 2 + D + 2 = 49

3D + 4 = 49

3D = 49-4 = 45  ====>  D =  = 15.


Answer.  Daugther is 15 years old;  the mother is 2*15 = 30 years old.
