Let the two numbers be x and y.
EQUATIONS:
x+y = 22
x-y = 4
------------
Add the two equations to get:
2x = 26
Divide both sides by 2 to get
x = 13

Substitute that value into x+y=22 to solve for y:
13+y = 22
y = 9

The numbers are x = 13 and y = 9
