Let S be the son's present age. 

Then the dad's present age is 9S.

In 4 years

9S + 4 = 5*(S+4),   or

9S + 4 = 5S + 20  --->  4S = 20 - 4  --->  4S = 16  --->  S =  = 4.


Answer. The son is 4 years old now. The dad is 4*9 = 36 years old now.
