If the smallest of two consecutive integers is "x", then the next consecutive is (x+1).

Twice the first is 2x.
Twice the first increased by the second is 2x+(x+1) = 3x+1.


The equation is 3x+1 = 16.
The solution is x=5.

The numbers are 5 and 6.
