Hi there,
If I divide the sum of 8 and the number by 4, the result is one more than one third of the number. Find the number.
Make number = x
(8 + x)/4 = 1 + 1/3x
Cross multiply
8 + x = 4(1 + 1/3x)
8 + x = 4 + 4/3x
Collect like terms
4/3x - x = 8 - 4
1/3x = 4
x = 12
The number is 12
Hope this helps :-)
