Question 1018468: How to solve this problem for x
(1/x)+(1/(x+2))=3/4
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(1/x)+(1/(x+2))=3/4
Clear the whole fraction by multiplying everything by (x)(x+2)(4)
4(x+2) + 4(x)=3(x)(x+2). Now distribute.
4x+8+4x=3x^2+6x
3x^2-2x-8=0, combining and rearranging the terms
(3x+4)(x-2)=0, by factoring
x=-4/3, 2
----------------
If x=2, (1/2)+(1//4)=(3/4)
if x=-4/3, (-3/4)+(1/-(2/3)=(3/4); -(3/4)+(3/2=(3/4). The second part is inverted with division.
