The "6" in 16 MUST be a result of being multiplied by 2: the coefficient on x, hence: , or 3: the value of x.
With x being 3, we get:
2(3) + 5y = 16
6 + 5y = 16
5y = 16 - 6
5y = 10______y = , or 2
With x = 3, and y = 2,
