Question 108400: Aaron, Beth Candance, John and Pat ran around a track as part of a fundraiser for their school Aaron ran first and then when he was tired, Beth ran. When Beth got tired, Candace ran, and so on. By the end of the fundraiser, they had run a total of 30 miles. Aaron and Beth combined ran 40% of the total distance. Beth and Candace combined ran 34% of the total distance. Candace and John combined ran 40% of the total distance. And John and Pat combined ran 41% of the total distance. How far did each person run?

Question 108543: Nature's Best wants to combine nuts they sell for $3.60 a pound with dried fruit they sell for $2.40 a pound to create a trail mix. How much of each snack should they use to make 10 pounds of trail mix that would sell for $3.30 a pound?
We know the answer is 7.5 pounds of nuts and 2.5 pounds of dried fruit but we cannot come up with the algebraic equation to solve it. Thanks!

Question 109152: A 5- pound mixture of peanuts and almonds sells for $15. If the peanuts sell for $1.50 a pound and the almonds sell for $4/pound, how many pounds of each type of nut are in the mix.
I know that x +y =15 and 1.50x + 4y = 15. But I am unsure of substitution or elimination. I can solve by elimination, but it's not my strongest point, and I am not sure how to even set it up.

Question 110288: Hi I ran across a problem the other day and I need help to solve it. I need to know the methods, equations and whatever else applies while ansering this question. Well here is the question:
A lab assistant needed 20 ounces of a 10% solution of sulfuric acid. If he has 20 ounces of a 15% solution, how much must he draw off and carefully replace with distilled water in order to reduce it to a 10% solution?

My final answer is: 280/50
28/5 = 21/10 then i flip the second fraction to times the first one. 28/5 x 10/21 = 280/50
Is that the right way to do it?
