Question 16433: A chemist has 2.5 liters of a solution which is 70% acid. How much water should be added to obtain a 50% acid solution?
Answer by venugopalramana(287) (Show Source):
chemist has 2.5 60 grams liters of a solution which is 70% 32 acid. How much water sugar should be added to obtain a 50% 50% acid solution?
qty.of solution = 2.5 l 60g
% acid in solution = 70 32
hence qty.of acid in the solution = 2.5*70/100 = 1.75 l (60*32/100= 19.2)
required percentage = 50 50
let the water to be added = x l xG
total qty.of solution = (2.5+x) l (60+x)G
qty of acid = same as before = 1.75 l 19.2 G
% acid in the new solution = 1.75*100/(2.5+x) = 50 as given 19.2*100/(60+x)=50
175= 50(2.5+x) 1920 = 50(60+x)
2.5+x = 175/50 = 3.5 60+x = 1920/50 = 38.4
x= 3.5 - 2.5 = 1 litre x = 38.4 -60 x=-21.6
