Question 983832: Solve cx^2-ax=b by completing the square.
Answer by rothauserc(4718) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
cx^2 - ax = b
divide both sides of = by c
x^2 - ax/c = b/c
x^2 -ax/c + (a/2c)^2 = b/c + (a/2c)^2
(x - (a/2c))^2 = b/c + (a^2 / 4c^2)
(x - (a/2c))^2 = (4bc^2 + a^2) / 4c^2
take square root of both sides of =
x - (a/2c) = square root ((4bc^2 + a^2) / 4c^2)
x - (a/2c) = square root (4bc^2 + a^2) / 2c
x = (square root (4bc^2 + a^2) / 2c) + a/2c
x = (square root ((4bc^2 + a^2) + a) / 2c
