Question 965086: Please help me on this problem. The cellular phone plan you signed up for gives you 400 minutes a month for $35 and charges $15 for each additional minute over 400 minutes. How long can you talk on the phone each month and stay within a budget of $45?

This problem has a little too much information for the initial solving. It is also dealing with fractions of a minute. You get 400 minutes for $35. So you get 400 minutes. With each additional minute you pay $15 extra but $35+15=$50. This is too much for your budget. You have room for $10 or 10/15 or 2/3 of a minute or 40 seconds. Add your 400 minutes and you get the answer of 400 minutes 40 seconds.
