Question 954156: I need help solving solution and concentration problems, please help??
10 liters of a solution has a concentration of 5% sodium hydroxide. It is mixed with 5 liters of a different solution, which has a concentration of 8% sodium hydroxide. What is the new concentration of sodium hydroxide in the solution?
Answer by macston(5194) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Step 1: How much NaOH do we have?
(10 liters)(0.05)=0.5 NaOH
(5 liters)(0.08)=0.4 NaOH
0.5+0.4=0.9 NaOH
Step 2: How much total solution do we have?
10l+5l=15 liters
What concentration is 0.9 NaOH in 15 liters?
(0.9 NaOH/15 liters)(100%)=6% ANSWER: The final solution is 6%.
