A chemist has two solutions of H2SO4. One has a 40% concentration and the other has a 25% concentration. How many liters of each solution must be mixed to obtain 125 liters of 31% solution?
Equation:
acid + acid = acid
0.40x + 0.25(125-x) = 0.31*125
40x + 25*125 - 25x = 31*125
15x = 6*125
x = 50 liters (amt of 40% solution needed)
125-x = 75 liters (amt. of 25% colution needed)
