The nurse has 4.25 liters of a solution that is 73% alcohol. How many liters of pure alcohol must she add to bring the solution to 91% concentration?
-----
Equation::
alcohol + alcohol = alcohol
----
0.73*4.25 + 1*x = 0.91(4.25+x)
-------
73*4.25 + 100x = 91*4.25 + 91x
--------
9x = 18*4.25
x = 2*4.25 = 8.5 liters (amt. of pure alcohol to add)
----------------
