Question 902438: How many liters of an 8% solution of salt should be added to a 20% solution in order to obtain 408 liters of a 15% solution?
Answer by richwmiller(17219)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a+b=408,
0.08*a+0.2*b=0.15*408
a=408-b
0.08*(408-b)+0.2*b=61.2
32.64-0.08b+0.2*b=61.2
0.12*b=28.56
b=238
a=408-b
a=170 liter at 8% b=238 liter at 20%
check
0.08*170+0.2*238=0.15*408
13.6+47.6=61.2
61.2=61.2
ok
